Builders and architects understandably want to enhance the appearance of their projects by the use of color and will not want to be restricted to white, even though that will save energy. This is where AlumaKlad and ColorKlad, with ULTRA-Cool coating, can be such a valuable asset; heat reflectivity is greatly increased without sacrificing color choices.

AlumaKlad and ColorKlad are coated with a premium cool coating for metal substrates called ULTRA-Cool from BASF. This coating dramatically increases the reflectivity of medium to darker colors to such a degree that the product meets the ENERGY STAR® specifications for cool roofs. ULTRA-Cool coatings are qualified for the ENERGY STAR program. For a roofing material to receive an ENERGY STAR rating, the solar reflectance for a steep, sloped roof (the typical residential roof angle) must be a minimum of 25%, dropping to no less than 15% after three years. For a low-sloped roof, the minimum solar reflectance must be a minimum of 65%, dropping to no less than 50% after three years.
